Here is a synopsis of basic requirements. (NOTE: The following list does NOT replace the official policy.)

  1. Take the required Praxis assessment(s).
  2. Make adequate progress toward your program of study through your university. Make sure you know the minimum requirements needed in order to have your license renewed. This is between you and your university.
  3. For each year you have the Practitioner License, you must have a year of successful teaching.
  4. You will receive 100 hours of mentoring in the first year, with 50 hours for the second and third years you have the license.

NOTE: The mentoring requirement is a stipulation of your license renewal per the Tennessee State Board of Education. The Clarksville-Montgomery County School System provides mentoring to help you meet this requirement.

The PRIDE Mentoring Program
The PRIDE Mentoring Program is a comprehensive approach to supporting new teachers. The PRIDE program involves both district personnel and faculty members at each school.

The Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, ASCD, defines mentoring in its education topics as follows:

Mentoring is when a role model, or mentor, offers support to another person. A mentor has knowledge and experience in an area and shares it with the person being mentored. For example, an experienced teacher might mentor a student teacher or beginning teacher.

Based on this definition and our district philosophy of comprehensive support, we have 7 categories of professionals who provide mentoring support for our new teachers.
