A huge component of Professional Development for new teachers is the . Besides the Academy, there are other New Teacher-Focused Trainings offered as well. Those are described below.

Pride Academy SY 2013-14The PRIDE Academy is a collective name for a series of training sessions focusing on the needs of teachers hired new to CMCSS. The technology are called "Get Hired, Get Wired" and "PowerTeacher." They are offered on several different dates. The Core PRIDE Academy is a two day workshop providing foundation-building knowledge. For teachers who are hired after the summer trainings, we offer "Saturday Sweeps" in which teachers can attend condensed versions of the summer in-services."Saturday Sweeps" Dates:
August 3 - Get Hired, Get Wired (6 hrs. inservice) from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Greenwood
August 10 - Core Workshop (6 hrs. inservice) from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Greenwood
August 17 - Get Hired, Get Wired (6 hrs. inservice) from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Greenwood
August 24 - Core Workshop (6 hrs. inservice) from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm at Greenwood

Get Hired, Get Wired

This 6.0 hour professional development is designed for any teacher new to CMCSS. It is an important informational offering which provides details about the technology rich resources available to teachers and students in the district. Even if you have taught elsewhere, you should consider attending to learn what is available for you here. The agenda includes details/resources and instruction on the following:

  • Servers - Both Teacher / Student (Active Directory or WebServer)
  • District Technology Model
  • eResources
  • Operating Systems
  • and Other Topics
Given the scope of information, each group will have the opportunity to prioritize their agenda, enabling us to make the time we have available as profitable as possible. We will also provide guidance as to other Technology PD offerings to consider for more information about technology integration with students.

Power Teacher

PowerTeacher is the grade book program used by all Clarksville-Montgomery County teachers. A component of PowerSchool, It is a tool that helps teachers to easily manage daily classroom activities such as taking attendance, entering grades, communicating with students and parents, posting assignment details, and much more. With PowerTeacher, these activities can be performed from any computer with an Internet connection, at any time. This training will review the basic operation of the gradebook program and formally introduce features included in the latest update.
Dates: July 11, 12, 18, or 25 On SATURDAY: Combined with Get Hired, Get Wired classes.

Core Two-day Workshop

On SATURDAY, the core two-day workshop is condensed into ONE day. SATURDAY DATES: August 10 or 24.
The Core Pride Academy is a two day workshop focusing specifically on the challenges of teachers either new to the profession or new to the district. Whether you have taught 20 years or zero years, the PRIDE Academy Core Workshop offers something for you. The dates are July 29 and 30. The PRIDE Academy will be at the Civic Hall in Veterans Plaze. Please arrive early each day to allow yourself time to sign in, as we will begin promptly at 8:00 am. On day one, lunch will be furnished for you, and you will eat on-site at Civic Hall. On day two, you will be on your own for lunch. You will be dismissed by 3:30 pm.

The first day of the Core Pride Academy focuses on Expectations. You will be introduced to District Expectations such explicit instruction, "best practices," the TEAM Rubric, and an overview of district strategic work. Your introduction to District Expectations will provide you with a foundation and big picture of what teaching looks like in CMCSS. The Professional Expectations address issues that principals have identified as concerns for new employees. These topics will help you put the right foot forward with your administrators, colleagues, parents, and students. The Classroom Expectations lessons focus on skills you need to be successful the first month of school.
Note for Special Education teachers of all grade levels: The afternoon of your Day 1 (July 29) will be your Introductory Easy IEP training.

The second day focuses on Curriculum and Instruction. You will spend the day with an Academic Coach or a Curriculum Consulting Teacher who will acclimate you to the CMCSS work and goals. You will focus on standards, the Explicit Instruction model for lesson planning, assessments, and instructional best practices. Elementary teachers will be at the respective schools, day and time to be determined by your school admin team.

Elementary teachers, your Day 2 will be scheduled by your school. Check PLAN for the date.

Model Classroom Training for New Teachers

This training is exclusively for teachers hired new to CMCSS and focused on how to use all technology on the teaching station (document reader, LCD projector). You must have a classroom with the this tech model equipment in order to attend.

New Teacher Seminars
